Description of Position
Under the direction of the Superintendent/President, the Vice President of Academic Services is responsible for the overall quality and integrity of the instructional program. Essential duties include: developing and implementing strategic planning including the Educational Master plan; preparing the schedule of courses, the College catalog and other publications; hiring, assigning and evaluating full-time and adjunct faculty; coordinating with student services programs and managing instructional budgets. The Vice President of Academic Services ensures that shared governance is an integral part of the College’s decision-making process.
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must possess:
• Master’s degree (earned doctorate degree preferred) from an accredited institution and
• Significant administrative experience

• Full-time teaching experience.
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning excellence.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all constituent groups. (i.e., Board of Trustees, management personnel, faculty, staff, and the community).
• Ability to exercise considerable degree of independent judgment, discretion and decision-making in serving as the Vice President of Academic Services.
• Possesses personal characteristics of trustworthiness, integrity, honesty in personal and professional interactions; exhibits energy, stamina and a sense of humor; is open to the discussion of values and ideas and can accept suggestions; has an appreciation for ethnic, cultural and social diversity; and can effectively serve as a role model for students, staff and community.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Promotes effective student-centered teaching methods and techniques and demonstrates sound knowledge of contemporary higher education issues such as distance learning.
• Supports technology in the classroom and understands the need to review, upgrade and maintain equipment and technological systems for teaching, learning and administrative support.
• Provides successful instructional leadership to special programs and the community.
• Understands the differences between vocational/occupational education and other instructional programs as well as the synergy between the two.
• Provides oversight for course schedule management in order to meet the changing needs of a diverse student population.
• Provides leadership to insure an effective faculty evaluation system as well as the continued evaluation and improvement of the COS instructional program.
• Improves and maintains quality of instruction and services at off-campus centers.
• Promotes the assessment of student outcomes in order to determine the effectiveness of student learning and student development programs.
Other
• Assume other duties normally associated with management or assigned by the Superintendent/President.
Conditions of Employment
Annual salary is $105,021 to $155,165, (Management Salary Schedule, Range 35). Salary placement is to be commensurate with education and experience. Management personnel who hold a doctoral degree receive an annual stipend of $1,800. District-paid medical/dental/vision insurance program and $100,000 in life insurance is provided.
