Teacher Assistant - Child Development
Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Teacher Director or Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing educational experiences to pre-school children and parents in accordance with the Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing and State Department of Education regulation.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
• Assist in all classroom activities.
• Interact with children in developing their positive self image.
• Work with all staff to develop an interdisciplinary approach so that optimum results are achieved from all aspects of the program.
• Ensure all health and safety rules are implemented clearly and consistently.
• Help maintain a safe and healthy environment in the classroom and on the playground.
• Remove broken or dangerous equipment from classroom and playground.
• Help keep the center orderly and share cleaning duties as needed.
• Look for obvious symptoms of illness and learn symptoms of communicable diseases.
• Develop good rapport and communication with parents.
• Accept and welcome parent suggestions as valued evidence of parent involvement.
• Attend all necessary meetings, conferences and workshops as required.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMNTS:
• High School Diploma or GED. Must have six units (6) of course work in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; or three units (3) of course work in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and currently enrolled in three (3) additional units. Three (3) months of experience working with preschool age children.
OTHER REQUIREMNTS:
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Sensitivity to cultural, economic and language differences.
• Must meet qualifications for the Child Development Matrix Teacher’s permit.
• Must have valid California driver’s license, reliable insured transportation and DMV printout is required.
• Must have home telephone. Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Must have valid first aid and CPR cards or be willing to obtain.
• Must have tubercular clearance, pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearance at the expense of the Kings Community Action Organization Child Care Services Department. Failure to meet medical standards or fingerprint clearance may result in termination or withdrawal of job appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Standing for extended periods of time, kneeling, bending, pushing and pulling, sitting and ability to lift 40 pounds.

Salary: $8.96-$11.96 / hr
