Job Description:
POSITION TITLE: Shelter Client Advocate - Crisis Support Services Program
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Women’s Shelter Coordinator
SALARY: Grade 16 $10.37-12.92 (hourly)/non-exempt WC 8804
(40 hrs/week – shift varies)
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY
Under the immediate supervision of the Shelter Coordinator, assumes responsibility for the provision of services to displaced women and children.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
* Oversee shelter operations including daily maintenance, meals, and coordination of activities for both women and children.
* Provide resource information and referral to shelter clients.
* Enforce shelter rules and regulations, including providing verbal and written reprimand when clients are out of compliance.
* Provide stabilizing influence in family stress situations, to include modeling appropriate parenting, cohabitating, and cleaning instruction.
* Receive after hour calls for shelter placement of domestic violence victims.
* Inventory responsibilities of shelter resources.
* Complete reports as required.
* Attend staff meetings and training as required.
* Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
* Minimum AA degree in social services or related field plus three years relevant paid work experience. Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the applicant with skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential functions of the position, may be considered in lieu of the degree.
* Knowledge and sensitivity to domestic violence dynamics.
* Ability and flexibility to effectively manage and organize competing work demands.
* Initiative to function in an organized manner with minimal supervision.
* Sensitivity to cultural, economic, and language differences
* Ability to interact well with staff and the public as well as convey non-judgmental attitude.
* Ability to work flexible hours.
* Ability to maintain confidential communication.
* Excellent written and verbal skills.
* Must have home telephone
* Must have reliable insured transportation and valid California’s driver’s license as well as be insurable by company policy.
* Must pass fingerprint clearance
* Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
* Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Lifting up to 40 lbs. Frequent bending below the knees. Lifting items below the knees or above the shoulder.
Salary: $10.37 - 12.92/hr
