Facilities Maintenance Worker I
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under general supervision of the Weatherization Director, performs maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical, or vehicle servicing. This position is also responsible for lawn care and maintenance at agency facilities throughout the county of Merced. Independently perform a variety of semi-skilled facilities and systems maintenance functions or may work under the direction of journey-level crafts worker on complex assignments.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
• Respond to daily service calls;
• Perform routine preventive maintenance functions for facilities and systems;
• Set up jobs and perform the manual labor preparation;
• Clean, maintain and repair fixtures, equipment and appliances;
• Installation of facility and systems materials, fixtures and mechanical equipment;
• Electrical work; maintenance and repair of electrical lines and fixtures;
• Installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and HVAC systems;
• Facilities renovations and new construction;
• Paint buildings and equipment
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate or equivalent; Valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum California vehicle insurance. Must be able to meet company insurance eligibility requirements. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, crawl and squat as needed; be able to lift and carry in excess of 40 pounds on a regular basis and 80 pounds occasionally, and to stand up to 90% of scheduled work time. Ability and willingness to perform essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge - Work requires working knowledge of the common terminology, methods, practices, tools and procedures related to building and facilities services, maintenance and repair and/or a base knowledge of a building/construction or mechanical trade.
Abilities - Must be able to perform proficiently a variety of semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks; operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems; follow standard written instructions and procedures; read and write at a level appropriate to the position; perform simple arithmetic calculations as required by the position; and demonstrate the ability to learn maintenance and repair functions. All positions require the performance of strenuous manual labor.
Experience - These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to six months of experience as a trades assistant or laborer, or six months of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair work. Possess basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and general maintenance/construction skills. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, communicate clearly both orally and in writing and work cooperatively with staff.
Salary: $14.25/hr
