Dow AgroSciences Internship
Job Description:
The Western U.S. Research Center (WRC) at Dow AgroSciences, a subsidiary of Dow Chemical Company, invites outstanding, qualified, and motivated undergraduate juniors/seniors and graduate students to apply for a temporary Summer Internship at its facilities in Fresno, CA. Internships run approximately from April through September. Students currently enrolled in Agronomy, Plant Science, Weed Science, Plant Physiology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, General Biology, Agriculture or related fields are urged to submit their applications.
Selected Interns will work in close cooperation with and under supervision of Field Scientists at the WRC. Laboratory and field activities include the design, implementation and data assessment of laboratory and field trials to characterize experimental, developmental, and commercial insecticides and herbicides and biotechnological products for agriculture. Interns will be involved in all phases of field trials, including planning, preparation, calibration, application, evaluation, maintenance, and harvesting. They will be expected to present the results of their projects to colleagues and peers. Additional laboratory and field activities may be assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications:
Competitive applicants will have a working knowledge of experimental design and the scientific method and be able to demonstrate proficiency within their technical discipline. Desired qualifications include excellent written/verbal communication skills, being detail oriented, being a team member with minimum supervision, and having interest in science and/or crop production. It is desirable that the intern has practical experience in maintaining research plots, sampling techniques, data recording and manipulation as well as word-processing skills.
Interns are expected to always operate in a safe and efficient manner. Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations are a requirement. Some tasks will require safe operation of small farm equipment and most tasks will require outside summer field work. All interns must have a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, and must provide their own transportation to and from work.
Those hired must commit to work through the summer and must be willing to work some weekends. Normal hours of employment will be 6 am – 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, but may include extra overtime hours (with overtime pay) and may include weekends, depending on project needs.
Salary: $12.00/hour
