Associate Teacher

Job Description:

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the supervision of the Teacher Director or Teacher, the Associate Teacher is responsible for assisting the Site Supervisor or Teacher in providing educational experiences for pre-school children in accordance with the State Department of Education, Title 22 guidelines, Department of Social Services, and Community Care Licensing, Division 12 regulations.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Assist in all classroom activities.

• Assist teacher in planning weekly and daily lessons.

• Assist teacher in implementing basic curriculum classroom structure.

• Interact with children in developing their positive self image.

• Work with all staff to develop an interdisciplinary approach so that optimum results are achieved from all aspects of the program.

• Ensure all health and safety rules are implemented clearly and consistently.

• Help maintain a safe and healthy environment in the classroom and on the playground.

• Remove broken or dangerous equipment from classroom and playground.

• Help keep the center orderly and share cleaning duties as needed.

• Look for obvious symptoms of illness and learn symptoms of communicable diseases.

• Develop good rapport and communication with parents.

• Accept and welcome parent suggestions as valued evidence of parent involvement.

• Attend all necessary meetings, conferences and workshops as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned by site supervisor.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED. Must have twelve units (12) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development including core courses (Child Development, Child, Family & Society, Principles & Practices and any other 3 units ECE/CD). A minimum experience of 50 days/ 3 or more hours per day within 2 years in a child care center or setting. Must possess an Associate Teacher’s permit or a temporary county certificate with in 30 days of hire, until permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing is obtained.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to maintain confidential information.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Sensitivity to cultural, economic and language differences.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Successful candidate must have valid California driver’s license, reliable insured transportation and DMV printout will be required. Must have home telephone.

• Must have valid first aid and CPR cards or be willing to obtain.

• Must meet all KCAO hiring requirements.

• Must have tubercular clearance, pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearance at the expense of the KC AO Child Care Services Department. Failure to meet medical standards or fingerprint clearance may result in termination or withdrawal of job appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Standing or sitting for periods which may exceed one or more hours. Kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting and ability to lift 35 pounds.

• Speaking and hearing to exchange information in person or on the telephone.

Salary: $9.41-$11.72/hr
