Home Base Home Educator

Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Under the supervision of the Home Base Supervisor, the Home Educator is responsible for providing comprehensive child development services to home base families in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Explains the Head Start Home Base philosophy and goals to families.

• Works with parents and children on a scheduled weekly home visit and accommodates their schedule for making visits (i.e., weekends, evenings due to work, school, or training).

• Maintains accurate and clearly written documentation of services provided to families.

• Completes Family Partnership Agreement on each family with periodic updates during the year.

• Assists in identifying family needs and acts as an advocate to local resources on their behalf.

• Encourages and promotes families to become self-sufficient, but as needed provides assistance.

• Encourages parents to participate with their children during socialization days.

• Assist parents in acquiring skills and confidence in providing educationally appropriate materials and learning experiences to their children.

• Conducts developmental assessment of each child using LAP-D, Speech Screen and Social Emotional Inventory.

• Involves parents in writing individualized plans, listing ideas, activities, household items to be used educationally that reflect the child’s developmental level.

• Completes health histories, dental forms, physical forms, vision screening on home base children and arranges for appointments as needed.

• Conducts a health check on the child upon arrival at the home visit, and reports any medical concerns or suspected child abuse.

• Provides nutrition information to families, completes nutrition screening form, measures, records, and graphs the child’s height and weight. Reports children with nutritional needs to the coordinator.

• Submits required monthly reports to the appropriate coordinators.

• Assists with the recruitment and enrollment of eligible families and children into the program.

• Assures that in-kind forms are completed, accurate, signed, and handed into the central office by due date.

• Attends all required staff meetings, training sessions, workshops and classes.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A.A. or B.S. Degree in Child Development, Human Development/Adult Education. Must have one year experience (working or volunteering) in a social/human services agency.

OR

High school graduate or possess a General Education Diploma (GED). Must have 45 college units of which 24 must be in ECE or Child Development which includes 3 units in administration/supervision, and 21 units in work-related subjects (human services, health and/or adult education) plus two years experience in a human/social services program.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with community, staff, and parents.

• Knowledge and use of computer to collect data and generate reports.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Sensitive to cultural, economic, and language differences

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must have reliable, insured transportation and a valid California driver’s license

• Must be able to meet KCAO, Head Start and Community Care Licensing hiring requirements which include:

? Fingerprint with child abuse index

? DMV printout

? Health examination with tuberculin clearance

? Child Care Health & Safety units (First aid and CPR included)

? Home telephone

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Standing or sitting for periods which may exceed one hour

• Lift and/or restrain students weighing up to 50 lbs.

Salary: $12.77 - 15.91/hr (40 hr work week)
