Day Camp Counselor
Job Description:
This is part-time work providing leadership and guidance in a camp environment to a group of children, Kindergarten through Third grade or a group of developmentally delayed children at Whispering Pines Park. Salary is $400 - $450 per week depending on previous experiences, including but not limited to leadership experience and education. Applicants must meet the following needs of the Recreation and Community Services Department:
1. Be able to work the consecutive 7 week summer program (June 15 to July 31)
2. Be able to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
3. Be able to provide own transportation to and from work.
4. Be able to attend the in-service training session which is set for June 10, 11, 12 and weekly staff meetings.
5. Be able to meet the personal appearance and dress standards of the department.
6. Eligible candidates are required to submit to and successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening for controlled substances prior to hire; and, if selected for employment will be subject to on-duty random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.
All applicants will be invited to compete in a group leader assessment interview Saturday, April 4, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Qualifications:
1. Must be 16 years of age.
2. Possess a Social Security number.
3. Valid tuberculosis (TB) Certificate.
4. Possess personal skills in the leadership of several types of camping activities, i.e. nature lore, hiking, arts & crafts, camp skills, singing and folk dancing, camp cooking, skits, and camp lore.
5. Possess the ability to organize groups for participation in diversified camping program.
6. Possess the ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public and to solve minor disciplinary problems arising in the day camp program.
7. Must be certified in standard First Aid and CPR training.
Salary: $400 - $450 per week
