Job Description:

One opening with Tulare County, within the Resource Management Agency (RMA) in Visalia. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and future vacancies within the Planning area. The anticipated life of the list is six months. The Branch is housed in the RMA facility located in Visalia, California. This position is At-Will and serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Tulare County is seeking a self-motivated, organized, multi-task oriented individual to serve as a Chief Planner with the Resource Management Agency. Duties of a Chief Planner include: Plan, organize, supervise and direct the work of staff engaged in administering various land planning, project review, environmental assessment, and resource management projects; perform administrative duties such as budget preparation, development of policies, and hiring, interviewing and disciplining staff; oversee staff and consultants that design, develop community and site plans, and other planning projects, provide technical assistance as needed; prepare and manage the development and processing of reports, agendas, ordinances, resolutions, agreements, contracts and other documents related to planning, environmental planning, and resource management; represent the Agency and make presentations at meetings of the County Board of Supervisors, the County Planning Commission, Airport Land Use Commission, Local Agency Formation Commission, Zoning Administrator, Site Plan Review Committee, and before other bodies and at public meetings; serve as the Tulare County Zoning Administrator and as the Chair of the Site Plan Review Committee as needed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements - Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban, regional or city planning; environmental studies; economics; community development; geography; architecture; or closely related field AND five years progressively responsible professional and comprehensive local governmental planning experience including supervision of professional and support staff.

Salary: $75,050 - $91,465 annually + Benefit Allowance of $5,538 annually
