ASSISTANT PLANT BREEDER
Job Description:
This is a hands-on position assisting the onion breeder at Sensient in the development of new hybrid varieties. These proprietary onion varieties are developed specifically for dehydrating and processing into a wide variety of food seasonings.
Major responsibilities include coordinating the local nursery for caged seed production, planting and harvesting of plot trials, and field evaluation of inbred and hybrid lines. Other responsibilities include supervising trial data collection, data management, and assisting with research projects on other crops of interest.
Qualifications:
A BS degree in plant science, horticulture, agronomy, or closely related discipline is required as is previous experience in field research, experience with horticultural crops, plant pathology and field plot testing. Considerable travel to remote trial sites is required during planting and harvesting seasons.
A working knowledge of MS Office programs, excellent communication/organization skills, bilingual (English/Spanish) ability and mechanical aptitude are highly desirable.
Salary: $40k - $56K DOE
