Veterinarian
Job Description:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
•Examine impounded animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
•Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds.
•Perform routine and emergency surgery.
•Inoculate impounded animals against various diseases such as rabies and distemper;
•Perform spay/neuter of shelter animals.
•Supervise and oversee vaccinations of shelter animals by shelter staff/technicians.
•Operate diagnostic equipment such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images.
•Establish and conduct quarantine and testing procedures that prevent the spread of diseases to other animals or to human, and that comply with applicable government regulations.
•Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, and general care necessary to promote health of animals.
•Educate the public about diseases that can be spread from animals to humans.
•Provide staff development training to staff who handle and care for animals.
•Euthanize animals; maintain logs, records, related forms, annual activity reports, and statistical data.
•Develop, recommend, and implement operation policies and procedures for the effective management of the animal shelter.
•Collaborate with the veterinary community and other interested groups to promote animal health care and develop a comprehensive volunteer support to enhance animal adoptions.
Qualifications:
License:
Must posses a current California license to practice veterinary medicine.
At the time of appointment, must possess a current and valid California driver’s license.
Education:
Graduation with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. or V.M.D.) degree from a 4-year program at an accredited college of veterinary medicine.

Salary: $6,486.13 - $7,886.67 monthly
