LOCATION: Santa Cruz County
JOB TITLE: Staff Research Associate I, Full Time (2 Years)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To support field and laboratory research on the management of Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM) in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. Under general supervision of the farm advisor, this position implements, monitors and maintains field experimental plots in commercial nurseries. This position quantifies and identifies insects caught in insect traps using a stereomicroscope.
Qualifications:
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Ability to implement and maintain field plots according to experimental procedures. Ability to organize and prepare data for statistical analysis and graphic presentations. Ability to establish and use environmental data loggers and associated software. Ability to use a stereomicroscope and other visual aides to identify insects and quantify insect population numbers that are trapped in the experiment. Ability to walk over uneven terrain sometimes over extended periods, and must be able to lift 25 pounds. General knowledge of a biological science preferably in entomology is required. Preferred is a Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science (ideally in entomology) or the equivalent of education and experience. Requires the ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule. Proof of liability insurance on vehicle used is required.
Salary: $2,935/month plus benefits
