Medical Lab Technician
Job Description:
This is for the Medical Lab Technician at McLane High School in the Medical Education and Research Academy program.
Basic Function
Provide a variety of technical and highly skilled tasks in the Medical Human Performance Lab including; injury assessment, blood pressure reading, TENS units, and basic concepts of rehabilitation and modalities. Train students and staff in the correct use of complex medical equipment including plethsymograph and CPX unit and related assessments.
Representative Duties
Formal Description
Tutor and provide instruction to individual or small groups of students with the Plethysmograph and CPX unit; and monitor practices and related activities under indirect supervision.
Perform specialized duties such as: assist program in the maintenance of the Human Performance Lab; assist in faculty and family education programs; maintain an inventory of the Human Performance Lab; administer various fitness tests (vo2 max, lung volume, body fat testing, heart rate, and taping and injury evaluation skills).
Assist with administering and scoring assessment instruments.
Participate in staff meetings and community advisory meeting, protocols pertaining to athletic training and exercise science.
Assure health and safety of students and assist in maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory.
Assist in indirect and non-instructional activities (i.e. setting up work areas, medical and other lab equipment maintenance; preparation of instructional materials, bulletin boards etc.)
Accompany students between assigned locations within educational setting and supervise students in multiple learning environments (i.e. field trips, work settings; etc.)
Examples of Actual Duties
-Supervise and tutor students in lab before school, at lunch, and after school
-Attend recruitment at all middle schools October-December
-Help Senior Science Research class by making copies of all documentation that is distributed for senior projects
-Project survey distribution to different FUSD schools
-Meet with students and community partners on and off campus
-Attend special events that include the students and Community partners
-Help with Fall/Spring Symposium by storing supplies, taking inventory and disturbing supplies to teachers/students. Set up and clean up Symposium night
-Set up vendors for Health Fair, assist with billing, work with outside grant people, set up and clean up day of event
-Maintain computers in lab including deleting old files, making sure software is working properly, clean/dust outside
Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school; (600 hours of supervised work experience with an athletic trainer and experience in the field of Kinesiology (Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, Physical Fitness, and Structural Biomechanics).
Salary: $14.00 + hr
