Job Title: Central Fresno Weed and Seed Site Coordinator

Reports To: Vice President Community Impact

FLSA Status: Full-time, Temporary Grant-Funded, Exempt

ROLE

This is a 1 year funded position with primary responsibility the management of the Central Fresno Weed and Seed Site to ensure successful implementation of highly collaborative community development and human services programs that lead to an improved quality of life through enhanced resident involvement. Directly reports to the Vice President Community Impact.

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

1. Lead the development, maintenance and implementation of the Central Fresno Weed and Seed site as described in the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Office of Weed and Seed guidelines.

2. Facilitate the governance role of the Weed and Seed Steering Committee, through such activities as data gathering, program reporting, meeting support.

3. Staff and coordinate subcommittees including Weeding, Seeding, and Evaluation.

4. Monitor the implementation and evaluation of the Central Weed and Seed strategic plan.

5. Increase participation in seeding activities by neighborhood and external stakeholders with an emphasis on public services and businesses serving the site area.

6. Serve as liaison between the Weed and Seed Steering Committee and the fiscal agent, service providers and law enforcement.

7. Pursue sustainable sources of funding and social capital for the Weed and Seed strategy.

8. Guide and assist the Weed and Seed Steering Committee, identifying and coordinating resources, networking with City and County officials, and determining feasibility of services offered by a provider agency, supporting those accepted by the Weed and Seed Steering Committee.

9. Establish a system to maintain identification of community needs in the target area and develop options for meeting those needs to be approved by the Weed and Seed Steering Committee.

10. Serve as liaison and coordinator for Weed and Seed Steering Committee projects.

11. Ensure the funded agencies are fulfilling their Memorandum of Agreement commitments.

12. Develop a program for volunteer recruitment and training.

13. Provide United Way Board of Directors; Vice President Community Impact; and Steering Committee with monthly written reports regarding activities and progress during the proceeding month, and develop quarterly reports to file with the Department of Justice.

14. Represent United Way of Fresno County and all community partners associated with this grant professionally and competently.

15. Personally endorse the purposes and programs of United Way and answer questions when appropriate.

16. Demonstrate a positive attitude and initiative as an enthusiastic team member.

17. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Must be able to juggle multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously on a continuous basis, to communicate on the phone and in person, be able to drive a car, to work extended hours as needed, work with minimum supervision, exercise sound judgment at all times, and be at work, consistently, on a full-time basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises support person. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training volunteer(s) and employee; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program reports, financial reports, and grant/funding guidelines. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from residents, regulatory agencies, and non-profit partners. Ability to effectively present information to community groups, residents and/or boards of directors. Bilingual Spanish is desirable.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply principles of logic to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current Drivers License and verifiable automobile insurance.

FUNDING SOURCE

The Central Fresno Weed & Seed Project is funded through the U.S. Department of Justice for the following period: October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009. While this is a 5 year project, funding is approved annually. Failure to receive adequate funding may result in termination of any temporary grant funded position without recourse.
